![]() ![]() In order to get this to work you’ll need to ensure that you’re both recording in RAW mode on the camera AND have set the RAW mode to 5.7K. 5.7K Stitching Support:įirst up is the new 5.7K stitching mode. Further, with the new HyperFrame functionality, you can take a 360° video and export a flat 1080p video angle from it, allowing you to get traditional 1080p footage but with all the angles of a 360° video. Now you can use Garmin’s own free VIRB Edit app to not only stitch everything together at 5.7K resolution – but also overlay metrics like speed, g-forces, heart rate, and many more. Those apps were either incredibly expensive, or complex to use (or if easy to use they were limited to 4K anyway). If you wanted higher resolutions you had to manually stitch the two 4k files together using 3rd party apps. Bad stitching manifests itself in many ways, from lopsided lighting to visible seams.Īnyway – back at launch, Garmin only supported in-camera stitching at 4K resolution (not the 5.7K the unit was capable of). How well a company does that will drive whether or not you think 360° video is worth your time. The process of pulling those files together into a single file is called ‘stitching’. With the VIRB 360 though, the camera stitched two 4K video sources together (Side note: in video math, 2x4K does NOT equal 8K, but rather 5.7K. Previously, even 4K, 360° action cameras didn’t look all that spectacular, because the 4K resolution was stretched over that entire 360° view, so your effective resolution floated between 720p and 1080p. With that, you can add your own music.īut in the last versions, you will have quicktime to be installed. When the VIRB 360 was announced this past spring, it was one of the first single-device 360° action cameras to actually produce higher than 4K resolution video files that looked good. Maybe I´ll give it a try at the weekend Yes, below the last Track, there is a "Search" button. But it would be nice to combine that recordings also. Sometimes we are riding together, where the remoting/multi cam feature is not making any sense ( to much distance). I guess it only works with the remote-feature? A Friend of mine has bought a Virb X and we borrow them each other. But understandable from garmin perspective :D Sad that I cannot use my old footage from my GoPro to use picture in picture, which I took for rear view. Currently they are taken from the selected. Taking Screenshots should always be in the highest available resolution. This will make sense with 4k recordings from Virb Ultra, but from 1080p down to 720p it´s a waste of time and storage. I don´t want to have all the videos twice. ![]() Sometimes, after a lot of editing and cutting you will have to leave the current edit back to the gallery. My PC is fast enough to show the preview. Thanks for your help!Īs an aside, I've also found that the auto lap and track shape functions are still not working properly as discussed in the following threads: Anyway, they're there now so all is good. I'm not sure what happened when I tried this morning as I remember the dropdown list of templates showing all but the 'Custom' option. Now all options are available including 'Custom'.Select 'Not now' to the Optimise video query.Open existing video (which has G-metrix and uses a custom overlay).I did a bit of an investigation and noted that there is a slight issue here. I've double checked #3 and the overlays are now there. Do you happen to have telemetry filtering turned on in the settings (Menu->Settings->GMetrix->Overlay Filtering)? This is purely a playback optimization.Ģ) I believe those have been fixed, as much of the implementation has been optimized to support the higher resolution videos.ģ) Your templates should still be there, nothing should have changed in that respect. Don't worry though, your source video is unmodified and any exporting/sharing will use the source video. You can then optionally use this during playback to greatly reduce the performance hit that occurs when playing large videos. 1) It creates a new, smaller (720p) copy of the video. ![]()
